Calming the Waters

Watching the news yesterday of the flood waters rushing through towns was especially distressing when the newsreader mentioned Numurkah the country town in Victoria,  is the home and business address of my sister and family.  I had heard from my mother the previous day that the town was preparing by sandbagging the shops and  evacuating the hospital and caravan park, but I guess the photo brought it home  to a more gut level. With an overriding sense that I was powerless, living in another state, so far away. Common sense says that I would be more a hindrance than a help,  and we have organised that my sister, when she has time will keep mum up to date by phone and the messages will then flow through the family as the river flows through her town and surrounding farms. We know the Emergency services and the  Army are working with the residents. but back to the sense of  powerless to help.

First I need to observe my feelings, knot in my stomach, resulting in impatience with all around me, holding my breath how am I reacting? Badly. I can better serve my sister and her town by watching my thoughts, the loop they form, staying with the whirling dervish my mind has become. Being with this will slow the thoughts. As the mind realises it is being watched it will start to slow and still.  Firstly I  begin by watching my breathing, shallow not deep. now I can work the Pranayama technique to begin to still it. I must find my centre as I can only help from that space. Knowing we are all interconnected, so  to calm the waters of this emotional turmoil  I  must disconnect from the”outer story” to the deep inner knowing.

To come to that quiet place and still the endless up and downs. Sit in meditation. From stillness I can send the gift of love, more powerful that the dark cloud of fear.

“Each of you choose to come to this Human existence and as you do, you birth yourselves into the consciousness of the human realm. You grow into all the ‘stories’of human existence;the turmoil stress fear pain and anguish of day-to-day living. However the greater truth of you is that you also and simultaneously exist in a greater reality, a reality beyond your mind or Body, beyond time and space. The Greater Beingness of you exists cradled in the Infinite Ocean of All -that -is, in the awareness of your own totality of being, at one with the source. As you are an extension of Source, so indeed you are also infinite and eternal.

How could it be otherwise.”          Jani King the gift.

Mum reminded me how everyone in the town was helping each other. How the best in humanity rise out of the worst situations.

About lorraine

After a nasty fall from my bicycle, coming home from high school, I began suffering from migraines. After a term of Chiropractic adjustments, which helped but did not entirely stop the migraine headaches, my parents in desperation sent me to yoga classes, The only available evening class in our area was filled with pregnant women. I felt out of place as a shy teenager, but persevered. adjustment, breathing, meditation and yoga proved the only therapy that bought relief from the headaches. Feeling well I got on with life, married moved from my home town and forgot the daily yoga practices and there benefits. Coming back to Yoga and meditation helped me manage during the time of my father's Cancer. and death. Later when my Husband became ill the natural decision was to qualify as a Yoga, meditation teacher to further assist others through the difficult times of illness and recovery or death. I have now been benefiting from the science and art of Yoga, Meditation for well over twenty five years.
