Heart Centering

As life seems to spin faster and faster and the needs of those around us begin to impinge more and more be it a relationship, children and their activities an aged parent, the workplace and our career time to sit and take a little peace to ourselves seems to fade and dissolve like pie crust.Try the heart centering technique as a fast method to bring you back to peace.

Yogis have known for centuries that calming the breath  calms the mind.Any thing  simple and pure  is often overlooked as not being profound and powerful. My students are amazed at how this simple but powerful technique improves their lives. One student used this technique along with yoga asanas (postures) daily to  turn them around from  a stroke. It is a very effective technique if you are troubled with depression or anxiety.

Let me show you how I was taught

Sit in any comfortable position, with your spine straight and your eyes closed, just closed, begin to relax. If feelings of anxiety or discomfit arise just return to the breath. Some people may feel a heaviness , a warmth or even a lightness as the tensions and tiredness leave the body.

Just imagine that you are listening with heart…….

i.e. shift your listening from head listening to heart listening.as though your heart has the listening device within it…

Not that you are listening for anything.

It is merely that listening with the heart allows you a more receptive frame of being

One very practical meditation that many find helpful is called centering in the heart. This teaches you to sit in sacred space. It also helps you to stay grounded as you navigate the spiritual path. The more you practice this meditation the easier it becomes. Plus, you will find you can stay in sacred space for longer periods of time. A simple and quick centering technique you can use with any prayer or decree is the following.

  1. Put your thumb, index, and middle fingers of your left hand together and place them in the middle of your chest next to your heart.
  1. Close your eyes and focus on this area.
  2. Take several deep calming breaths.
  3. Visualize the inner light.

About lorraine

After a nasty fall from my bicycle, coming home from high school, I began suffering from migraines. After a term of Chiropractic adjustments, which helped but did not entirely stop the migraine headaches, my parents in desperation sent me to yoga classes, The only available evening class in our area was filled with pregnant women. I felt out of place as a shy teenager, but persevered. adjustment, breathing, meditation and yoga proved the only therapy that bought relief from the headaches. Feeling well I got on with life, married moved from my home town and forgot the daily yoga practices and there benefits. Coming back to Yoga and meditation helped me manage during the time of my father's Cancer. and death. Later when my Husband became ill the natural decision was to qualify as a Yoga, meditation teacher to further assist others through the difficult times of illness and recovery or death. I have now been benefiting from the science and art of Yoga, Meditation for well over twenty five years.
