Gratitude is appreciation which you now feel in your heart.
Until you make your heart your home, you are like a bird in a cage experiencing life through the bars.
You begin by being aware of something beautiful, a kindness perhaps maybe something loving happening to you. Perhaps the laughter of a child, A lucky opportunity arriving in your life. Maybe it’s the sound of the waves, the feeling of sun on your back. The perfume of a freshly baked meal, and so you observe, feel, smell all this and then forget it.
For most people, they note it all on the intellectual level, the passing blessings of life.
To many people the beauty of the sunset, a starlit night, the song of a bird, remains as fleeting as their next thought. They never go any deeper swimming to the world of wonder. They are just too busy. To many things to do and not enough time.
To learn to understand life know that we must slow down.
That only by appreciating the moments, the stillness, the perfume of the rose can we change our life. Get off the spinning wheel and enter the world of wonder. The ancient teacher’s and wise master’s taught us to observe much, feel more, participate in each moment. As we pat the soft coat of a dog, watch the wind in a wheat field, sing ,engage in acts of service to others and our community.
Only then do we understand gratitude. Emotion will flow and in the silence spirit enters the room. Slow down, lie awake at night and listen to the wind, smell the perfume of the freshly grown tomato, make the world a friend.
On this day of gratitude, observe, notice, feel, inhale and appreciate.
For life comes to you and through you.
To merely exist, to go through life by not noticing the moment by being too busy is to be no… thing.
Strength, hope, needing to share,to be ourselves, to serve will grow us courage, honour and patience. In our gratitude Joy and a sense of wholeness, being complete enters our life.
Take time for the small things, for only then will the vast and big things in your life improve.
Laughter , Love, better relationships, working at what you enjoy, only these can arrive when you are grateful when you are thankful.
As William Blake perfectly summarises gratitude “To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour.”
